CESNUR: Center for Study on New Religions

Established in 1988 and directed by the Italian scholar, Dr. Massimo Introvigne, CESNUR is an international consortium of academics dedicated to responsible research in the areas of new religious movements and religious freedom. According to their site, "CESNUR is a network of independent but related organizations of scholars in various countries, devoted to promote scholarly research in the field of new religious consciousness, to spread reliable and responsible information, and to expose the very real problems associated with some movements, while at the same time defending everywhere the principles of religious liberty."

NURELWEB: An Academic Approach to Cults and Religion

NURELWEB is the homepage of Irving Hexham, professor of religious studies at the University of Calgary, and a leading authority on new religious movements and related phenomena. Dr. Hexham's page is well laid out and contains a wealth of information on topics ranging from cults and sects to an on-line Concise Dictionary of Religion. In addition to these other treasures, Dr. Hexham also owns and moderates Nurel-l, an academic discussion list devoted to the study of new religious movements.

The Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance

Jeffrey K. Hadden calls this one of the best religion websites on the Internet today. The retirement project of a Canadian engineer, the Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance project has grown into simply one of the largest religious databases available.

        http://www.religiousmovements.org/

"Dedicated to the study of religious movements on the web and in the world," the Religious Movements Homepage is without a doubt one of the most complete sources of information on new religious movements, religious freedom and tolerance, and religious broadcasting available on the web today. The site is owned and operated by Dr. Jeffrey K. Hadden, professor of sociology at the University of Virginia and noted scholar of cults, sects, and new religious movements. Of particular interest, see the "News" column on the frontpage of the site and the religious movements profiles page.
